| Ireland - The Titanic Trail |
 |
 |
| 27th May 7 days Half Board £495 |
| It's 100 years since the Titanic left its last port of call at
Queenstown in Cobh Harbour (pronounced Cove) on her
fatal maiden voyage. Our tour starts with another story,
Irish Racing. |
Day 1
We journey along the North Wales coast to the Isle Of
Anglesey where we have a short stop for lunch. Afterwards
we head for Holyhead for the early afternoon Irish Ferry
sailing to Dublin, arriving about 5.30. We leave the ship and
travel around 65 miles south to Carlow and the Seven Oaks
Hotel. We arrive in time for dinner and have a two night stay.
Day 2
A hearty Irish breakfast and then we depart for a guided tour
of Irish National Stud where you will be allowed to see the
stud and the horses, some worth millions of pounds. Your
guide will explain everything as you walk the estate plus you
will be able to visit the Japanese Garden which is now over
one hundred years old. Afterwards we return through the
countryside to The Seven Oaks Hotel, where tonight there
will be Irish music in the bar.
Day 3
We leave Carlow and travel south via Kilkenny and on to
Cashel where you can visit the Rock of Cashel. The Rock
was the traditional seat of the Kings of Munster for several hundred years prior to the Norman
invasion. Few remnants of the early
structures survive; the majority of
buildings on the current site date from
the 12th and 13th centuries. Cashel is
reputed to be the site of the conversion
of the King of Munster by St. Patrick in
the 5th century. Time to acquire a little
lunch then we travel onto the Midleton
Park Hotel for 3 nights. Dinner tonight
starts with a pre dinner drinks reception
followed by a themed dinner based on
the original menu of the Titanic.
|
Day 4
Starts with Irish breakfast then we set off
to Blarney. In 1446 the third castle was
built on the site by Dermot McCarthy,
King of Munster of which the keep still
remains standing. There is a small charge
to enter the castle which is not included
in the tour. There is also time to visit
Blarney Woollen mills for some gifts.
After an early lunch we depart for Cobh
Harbour and our visit to the Queenstown
story, an interesting story of The Titanic.
We also allow time to visit the pretty
town before returning to the Midleton
Park and another themed dinner.
Day 5
Today we travel to Cork with time to
browse Ireland's second city. Maybe you
would like to follow in the footsteps of
our Queen's visit in 2011 and look at the
English market with its huge selection of
food or maybe visit the Cathedral or walk
along the River bank. We depart after
lunch and return to Midleton. There will
be some free time in the town or if you
wish we can arrange a visit to Jamesons
Distillery. Tonight there is another themed
dinner and entertainment.
Day 6
Sadly we leave Midleton today and
head along the southern coast passing
Youghal and Dungarvan to Waterford
where we take a guided tour of the
New Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre at
1200, included in tour price. After the
tour we have time to fi nd some lunch
then we travel on to our last stop The
Ramada Woodland Court at Bray.
Day 7
We spend a couple of hours in Dublin
before we head for the port and the Irish
Ferries Fast Craft sailing around 2.00. This
sees us in Holyhead at 4.30 ish then we
head home through North Wales.
