Tynwald Day |
| Midway between England and Ireland, the Isle of Man has attracted visitors since the Vikings arrived in about 800AD. If they could come back today, they'd fi nd a holiday island with something for just about everyone. Douglas is the lively capital where you can ride on horsedrawn trams or steam or electric trains. Its wide bay and promenade offer entertainment and many fi ne restaurants. There's all kinds of scenery. Wild and rugged mountains give way to pretty countryside and picturesque villages before these meet the sea and the long, sandy beaches of the perfect holiday isle. |
Day 1
Our holiday begins by visiting Morecambe for lunch and a little browsing. We head to the port for about 1 o'clock for our 2.15 sail to Douglas. We arrive just before 6.00 and travel to the Rutland Hotel where there is time for a wash & brush up before dinner.
Day 2
Today is Tynwald Day a Bank Holiday on the island and when the Manx Parliament has its outdoor celebrations at St Johns, there is talk the Queen maybe Guest of Honour. A morning of pomp & ceremony followed by Tynwald fair, the fair is where everyone gathers afterwards, there are lots stalls for all different causes, a truly great day. |
Day 3
Another Bank Holiday for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, today we will tour the northern part of the Island. Taking in Laxey , Ramsey, The Lhen, Juby, Ballaugh and Kirk Michael.
Day 4
Today we travel south starting with a ride on the steam railway from Douglas to Port Erin. We allow you a little time to explore Port Erin, then we travel to The Sound were you can get some lunch. After lunch we travel over the South Barule then Glen Maye to Peel.
Day 5
After a hearty breakfast it's time to check in for the 8.30 sailing back to Heysham, arriving in our area about 3pm. |
